Chiropractic Adjustments

The primary method of care performed at Rodriguez Family Chiropractic Inc. is known as a “chiropractic adjustment.” The purpose of the adjustment is to restore joint mobility by manually applying a controlled force into joints that have become hypomobile – or restricted in their movement – as a result of a tissue injury. Tissue injury can be caused by a single traumatic event, such as improper lifting of a heavy object, or through repetitive stresses, such as sitting in an awkward position with poor spinal posture for an extended period of time. In either case, injured tissues undergo physical and chemical changes that can cause inflammation, pain, and diminished function for the sufferer. Adjustment of the affected joint and tissues, restores mobility, thereby alleviating pain and muscle tightness, and allowing tissues to heal.

Electronic Muscle Stimulation

Electric Muscle Stimulation (EMS) is a modality that sends very small electrical currents through the affected area of the patient’s injury. Most patients find EMS to be extremely beneficial and describe the treatment as a tingling or massaging. Benefits of EMS include a decrease in pain, decrease in swelling, increase in blood flow, and accelerated healing process. Additionally, when muscles are extremely tight, it can be difficult to perform an adjustment. In these circumstances, EMS can be used prior to an adjustment to relax the muscle and make certain techniques more comfortable for the patient.

Trigger Point Therapy/ Myofascial Release

Trigger Point Therapy is highly effective way to reduce muscle spasms and relax hyperactive muscles. This helps restore normal range of motion and promotes faster healing. Trigger point therapy involves using the hands to locate underlying tight bands or nodules of muscle fibers. Then using the hand and fingers, the muscle is compressed with sustained pressure to relax it. Typically pain is felt for 8-12 seconds, followed by relaxation of the knot/nodule. Myofascial release is very similar to this, the difference being the addition of movement of the affected muscles while pressure is held. X-Rays If x-rays or MRI’s are necessary you will be referred to an imaging center. X-rays are taken on a case-by-case basis, taking into account all the history, symptoms, and personal factors the patient presents. The combination of patient history, personal factors, examination finding, and x-rays are simply tools we use to diagnose the problem and design the proper plan of care. The benefit of having x-rays done is that two set of eyes will review the images; the imaging doctor and your chiropractor, Dr. Rodriguez. Intersegmental Traction We offer the treatment of Intersegmental Traction. It separates the vertebrae to allow blood flow to the discs, exercises muscles and ligaments, and stimulates important acupuncture points. This not only helps to relax the patient, but also allows us to deliver a more gentle adjustment.
